Idaho is home to incredible communities, of all shapes and sizes. If you would prefer to live in a smaller town, there are several low-population cities in Idaho, like Lincoln in the South Central region of the state. If you would rather live in a larger city, however, look into Idaho’s Treasure Valley. This portion of Idaho is home to 40% of the state population. Also known as the Boise Metropolitan area, this region has excellent homes for sale in its cities and towns.
Boise is considered the center of the Treasure Valley, as it is the capital of Idaho and the largest city. Boise is known for its high livability, and it is noted in “Livability.com” as number four in the Top 10 Downtowns in America, because of excellent schools, affordable housing, and low crime rate. Boise is also considered to be a very healthy city, and contains all sorts of amenities useful to maintaining a higher quality of life. In 2012, Boise was rated the fifth Healthiest City in “Women’s Health/Men’s Health.”
The Treasure Valley is a largely interconnected area because of the close proximity of its cities. Meridian, for example, is only a few short miles from Boise. Some people who live in Meridian come to Boise for both work and play. The city of Eagle is slightly further away from the capital yet remains part of the Boise Metropolitan area. Other cities in this area include Star, Middleton, Kuna, and Caldwell.
No matter what city you choose to live in, with property for sale in Idaho, there are many reasons why this is one of the best states to live in the country.
One of these reasons are the Idaho rivers. There are over 93,000 miles of waterway in Idaho, and something to do for every mile! For example, 3,100 miles of the rivers have whitewater rapids which can be rafted or kayaked through - if you’re daring enough. Whether you want an exhilarating experience or would rather lazily float down a river, we have a waterway for you. Idaho has rapids to represent every class difficulty rank, including Class V. The Salmon River, for example, has more difficult rapids at the South fork, and Payette River has some at the North fork.
What about those mountains? Idaho rivers can be stunning, but sometimes nothing can compare to the allure of Idaho’s mountains. While living here, the mountains are a perfect backdrop to your everyday life. But they don’t need to stay in the background. Camping in Idaho can be both a relaxing and thrilling experience where you can enjoy the wild terrain Idaho is so known for.
Idaho has excellent trails with hiking, biking, ATV, and horse access. Whether exploring the Sawtooths, ascending the Owyhees, or visiting Table Rock, Idaho trails are carefully maintained for the benefit of Idaho residents and visitors. Alternatively, rather than navigating these trails, explore Idaho’s lakes and creeks for a great fishing experience. Idaho has a diverse population of fish including catfish, perch, whitefish, and sturgeon. The most common fish in these mountains, however, are trout and salmon - and with just the right seasoning, you won’t even need to buy dinner!
Winter in Idaho does not prevent outdoor activities, so fun is year round. With several ski resorts, one has ample opportunity to enjoy the snow including snowboarding, snow skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, snow tubing, and more. Some of the most popular ski resorts include Bogus Basin (above the Treasure Valley), Magic Mountain (just outside of Twin Falls), and Tamarack (located in Donnelly).
The Modern Lifestyle
On the other hand, you may not be an outdoor person. That’s fine! Though many Idaho residents adore being outside, there are plenty of facilities in our cities and towns to be enjoyed. Meridian is home to one of the most modern shopping experiences in the state, the Village, which is a European-style mall. In Nampa, the Ford Idaho Center is used for some of the concerts, rodeos, and other events that occur in Idaho. Casual and fine dining, as well as stores to match all sorts of styles, are found in Idaho. This beautiful state can not only be fun and exciting, but comfortable as well.
