Boise, Idaho

Boise, since founded in 1863, is one of Idaho’s most popular cities. As the capital of the state, Boise has quickly developed into a sprawling metropolis that rivals other cities in the Pacific Northwest. In part because of its prime location at one end of the Treasure Valley, Boise has attracted hundreds of thousands of people to dine, play, and work.

Where is Boise?

Boise is located in Ada County, the perfect place to look for a Boise house for sale, in the southwestern portion of Idaho. Nestled between rising foothills to the Northeast and split in two by the Boise River, this unique city in the Treasure Valley began as a mining community in the 1860s. As a stop along the Oregon Trail, Fort Boise brought together two of the most precious commodities at the time - settlers and gold - and eventually grew popular enough to be Idaho’s capital. Though the gold mines have long since run dry, this gem of the Treasure Valley continues to be a vibrant, pleasurable place to live.

Boise’s terrain contributes a great deal to the local culture. The Boise Foothills are smaller mountains that locals can explore on hiking, biking, and horse trails. These desert hills are lush with sagebrush and other flora. Incredibly scenic, this area of Idaho is not only recreational, but some portions have been developed into real estate. Boise real estate in the foothills is typically made of larger homes with big plot sizes.

Further to the Northeast are taller mountains, where Boise residents can find more camping and hiking opportunities. However, during the winter, these mountains are great for sports like skiing or snowboarding.

The Boise River, which runs through Boise, is one of the major waterways in the Treasure Valley. During the warmer months, valley inhabitants flock here to float down the river on inner tubes, kayaks, and inflatable watercraft, or cool their feet along the banks. Some homes in Boise have been built along this waterfront and have their own private entrances to the river.

Things to Do in Boise

Boise is the most populated city in the entirety of Idaho, and according to the 2010 census, over 205,000 people live here. These people can find all sorts of things to do in Boise, thanks to Boise’s dedication to mixing city life allure with small-town aesthetics.

Boise’s Downtown district is a vivacious area with all varieties of both local and chain businesses. These include Boise’s incredible entertainment venues, like the Egyptian Theater or Julia Davis Park. The theater, which first opened in 1927, is lavishly decorated in a homage to the tomb of King Tutankhamen. This classic building is still a popular venue for movies, concerts, and other performances.

Julia Davis Park, on the other hand, is one of Boise’s premier outdoor spaces, and spans 43 acres across Downtown Boise. This riverside park is filled with large trees and paved pathways, as well as establishments like the Idaho Rose Society and Rose Garden, the Zoo Boise, the Idaho Historical Museum, and the Discovery Center of Idaho. This science museum is a fully interactive facility meant to germinate an interest in higher learning, and holds bi-annual speciality exhibits.

Additionally, Julia Davis Park has access to the Boise Greenbelt. The Boise Greenbelt is a 25-mile long, paved pathway that runs alongside the Boise River from the Lucky Peak Dam east of Boise to the city of Eagle in the west. This trail is used quite extensively, including by those with bikes or segways. It passes through some of Boise’s popular places to visit, a long list that spans most of Boise’s parks, a scale model of the solar system, and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival (ISF). This 770-seat deluxe outdoor amphitheater is the seasonal performance space of ISF repertory theater group, and people from all over the region come to see their productions.

Boise Neighborhoods

Boise is a multi-faceted communities with some incredible homes for sale. Since first initiated as the capital of the Idaho territory in 1864, Boise has been the home of settlers of all walks of life - which explains how incredibly varied the homes are in style.

The North End district of Boise, for example, is one of the oldest in the city. Originally highly popular, many of the original Victorian and Queen Anne houses can still be found and purchased here. However, if you continue into the parts of the North End that lie on the Boise Foothills, you’re more likely to find stucco, Old Mission homes, as well large as contemporary houses in some of Boise’s latest housing developments. The North End is also home to Hyde Park, a vibrant and eclectic business district.

The West Boise and West Bench areas, on the other hand, are generally considered to be more modern than districts like the North End or Warm Springs Avenue. These areas have affordable homes for sale, which on average are purchased for around $200,000. This piece of Boise is sometimes considered to be quite similar to the North End for its livability and the range of exterior home designs. Furthermore, the Boise Towne Square Mall is located here, which is the largest mall in the state.

Other districts and neighborhoods with at least one Boise house for sale include Boise Heights, Quail Ridge, Morris Hill, and the Lusk District - all excellent locations to find the right home for you!

Boise is a home of both recreational and cultural diversity, with a quality of life not often found elsewhere. Try browsing the for a Boise house for sale today.
