North Boise is filled with great shops, amazing people, and (most importantly) an array of delicious and unique restaurants that are sure to get your taste buds tingling with excitement! In this article are some options to help you start your mouth-watering journey for some authentic meals.
The Dutch Goose- Located at 3515 W. State Street, is an American pub with one of the cheapest places to eat in this part of town. If you are wanting to avoid the crowds to watch a game at the bar, this place has the ideal set-up. With multiple TV’s, pool tables, and horseshoe pits outside, this pub is fairly different from some of the other places out there. Some of their food items include authentic finger steaks (cut fresh every day), chicken strips,steamed clams, homemade soups, fish and chips, halibut and chips (which is only served Fridays and Saturdays), the 2 for 1 Burger Special, grilled sandwiches, and all-natural burgers with juicy flavors! The doors are open from 11am-midnight Sundays through Tuesdays, and from 11am-2am on Wednesdays through Saturdays.
Hyde Park Pub and Grill- This restaurant is located in the historic park of the same name (address is 1501 N. 13th Street), and it is a favorite place to go for a quick bite to eat. It is also known for its tasty burgers and wide selection of crafted beer, making this another classic pub on the list. Some of the delicious food items include, but are not limited to: Buffalo Chips, fresh soups and salads, classic burgers (including the Hawaiian burger), cabbage rolls, ribs, poached salmon, grilled ham and cheese sourdough sandwich, onion rings, the signature Reuben sandwich, and so much more! They also have vegetarian and gluten-free options for those who need it. The doors are open from 11am-midnight on Mondays and Tuesdays, 11am-10pm Wednesdays through Saturdays, and 5am-9pm on Sundays. Happy hour is from 4pm-6pm.
Parrilla Grill- This Mexican grill is located on 1512 N. 13th Street and is known for its inviting atmosphere and authentic Mexican cuisine. This is another bar and grill close to Hyde Park; however, because of its Mexican fusions, the food here is much different from others in the area. Some of their food items include a wide variety of tacos (with a great deal on Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays), burritos, steak, carnitas, and much more! The doors are open from 7am-10pm every day of the week!
Casa Mexico- Another Mexican restaurant on the list (as well as another restaurant located in Hyde Park at 1605 N. 13th Street), this family-owned cafe shares authentic Mexican food, as well as a few American food items. The food is made from fresh ingredients every single day and has the best chips and salsa in town. The prices are a little bit higher here, but that is to be expected from a place as great as this. There are house specialties every single day which include: fajitas on Sundays, tacos al carbon on Mondays, steak a la Mexicana on Tuesdays, carnitas de res on Wednesdays, carne asada on Thursdays, real crab enchiladas on Fridays, and camarones a la ranchera on Saturdays. Of course, you can order these on any given day, but the specialties have a discount if you have the right coupon. They also have catering services if you are wanting to have a party or celebrate any other special occasion! Doors are open from 11am-10pm Mondays through Saturdays, and 11am-9pm on Sundays.
Westside Drive-In- This classic Boise drive-in (located on 1939 W. State Street) has been in operation since the 50’s and is a great place to chow down on some comfort food. Much of the menu includes, but are not limited to: juicy burgers, an array of sandwiches, homestyle meals, seafood platters, hot dogs, a variety of malts and shakes, as well as other desserts. They even have an ice cream truck that serves Idaho’s famous ice cream potatoes (you can also rent the whole ice cream truck if you’re having a party!). Feel free to drive-in or take a seat inside the restaurant itself. You can even order your food online if you’d like! The doors are open from 11am-10pm Mondays through Fridays, 10:30am-10pm on Saturdays, and 11am-9pm on Sundays.
36th Street Garden Center and Bistro- Located on 3823 Garden Center Way, this bistro is the ideal place to get brunch, or to sit down and enjoy the view. They have a garden center that is separate from the bistro, which always has sales on different plants and flowers that you can use for your home or office. The food menu includes eggs benedict, sockeye salmon fillet, bistro enchiladas, bistro club sandwich, highland beef burger,soup and salads made fresh, mushroom swiss burger, shredded pork tacos, blackened chicken wrap, roasted apple chutney and chicken, and much more! There are also vegetarian and gluten-free options available. The bistro is open from 7am-9pm Mondays through Fridays, 8am-9pm on Saturdays, and 8am-3pm on Sundays. The garden center (if you’re interested in flowers as well) is open 9am-6pm Mondays through Thursdays, 9am-7pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 9am-3pm on Sundays.
Mazzah Mediterranean Grill- This restaurant is located on 404 E. Parkcenter Boulevard and specializes in locally made Mediterranean food. For ten years in a row, this restaurant has been named the Best of Boise, so it is no wonder that it should be on this list! Some of their best items include baba ghannooj and pita, mujaddara, falafel platter, chicken kabob platter (you also have the choice of beef, lamb, or veggie kabobs), gyro sandwich, Tabouli salad, Lebanese salad, and homestyle baklava for dessert. There are many more items to choose from, and you can order them in the restaurant or online! The doors are open Mondays through Thursdays from 10:30am-8pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:30am-9pm, and Sundays from 11am-8pm.
