Idaho: A Skiing Winter Wonderland

You'll find that Idaho's winters are as celebrated as its summers, and it arguably begins with the skiing. Idaho is home to over 20,000 ski-able acres, the heart and soul of what makes our state so fantastic during the cold weather months. The following are just some of Idaho's top skiing areas.

Be on the Slopes Within an Hour

Under an hour's drive outside of Boise is Bogus Basin Ski Resort, the area's favorite wintertime destination. A fabulous local amenity, this mountain is incredibly close to town and friendly. With over 2,600 acres of mixed runs, bowls and glades in the Boise National Forest, this area gem caters to locals and visitors of all athletic abilities. Bogus is a buzz of activity with 35km of groomed Nordic day trails; 7km of solar-lit Nordic night trails; a tubing hill served by a lift; 3 day lodges with food services and 1 lodge able to be reserved for functions such as weddings and get togethers. Bogus is used during the summer for disc golfing, hiking and mountain biking. With ski slopes and hiking trails less then an hour away Boise, Idaho is an excellent place to live.

Adventure Anywhere You Go

Further adventure is found nearby in the beautiful Sun Valley, Idaho with the world renowned Bald and Dollar Mountains. Acclaimed by top rated skiers and riders around the planet, Sun Valley is the top skiing destination for all of Idaho. "Baldy" is the primary ski mountain of the Sun Valley ski resort, well known for its lengthy runs at varying levels of difficulty without wind. Dollar Mountain is also a part of the Sun Valley ski resort and is more for beginner or intermediate skiers. Dollar Mountain is served by four chairlifts. There is also a magic carpet and a tubing hill. You'll find that the trails on Dollar Mountain are gentler in pitch and shorter in length than those on Baldy.

Brundage Mountain Resort is located in west central Idaho near the city of McCall, just outside Boise, high in the mountains. Brundage is known for its powder-packed glades and fabulously wide, well groomed runs. Brundage gets over 320 base area inches of snowfall each year, contributing to its undisputed reputation for having some of the best snow in the state. Here you'll find back country powder skiing on 19,000 acres of terrain just north of the lift-served area. There are half-day, full-day and two day trips available. These areas experience some of the highest snowfalls in the state of Idaho. Into snowmobiling? McCall is also home to over 544 miles of groomed trails, bowls and acres and acres of back country powder.
