HISTORY

In order to understand the community in Middleton today, it is important to first understand the history of how this small Idaho town came to be.

As one of the oldest settlements in the state and the oldest settlement in the Canyon County, Middleton has been an important part of Idaho for many years. Middleton began with a man by the name of William N. Montgomery, who parceled out the land in Middleton to different settlers in 1863. Together, these settlers started building the community from the ground up. They named it Middleton, due to its location, which was midway between Boise and an old ferry site on the Snake River.

The town started to grow, but in 1872 the nearby Boise River flooded and cut a new channel, isolating the town on an island. Because of this, the location of the town was moved after 1880. Middleton became a city in 1910 but it was not official to Idaho representatives until 1971 when a city certificate was issued.

Middleton experienced more challenges throughout the years, like the burning of it’s hotel in 1914, a bank robbery in 1926, and when the Middle High School burned to the ground in 2007. However, these challenges have only brought the community closer together. With a population of 5,524 and a population density of 976 inhabitants per square mile, investing in Middleton Idaho real estate means investing in a small town with interesting history.
